HID Ballasts

An HID (High Intensity Discharge) ballast is a remote piece of equipment that connects between the electrical outlet and the grow light reflector. Its job is to start and control the flow of power to high intensity discharge lamps connected to the reflector. In metal halide systems, it is composed of the transformer, capacitor and connecting wiring. High sodium sodium systems require an ignitor in addition to the transformer and capacitor.
