An HID (High Intensity Discharge) reflector is the hood that shines the light down onto your plants. A reflector is where the bulb / lamp screws into. Most HID reflectors also connect to an HID ballast that actually runs the bulb. There are a few reflectors on the market that have the ballast built right into them as one unit.  You can find those here.
